This year’s 2012 Video Music Awards show was hosted by the one and only Kevin Hart. Rihanna opened up the show performing “Hopeless” and her new single Frustration featuring A$AP Rocky. She gave her fans a peek of the Four Diamond tour coming in the summer of next year. Rihanna gave the VMA’s an amazing start from the Los Angeles Staples Center.
The tables started to turn when Kevin Hart couldn’t help but talk about celebrity mistakes. One joke was aimed at MTV for having Russell Brand host…twice and then at Kristen Stewart for her mistakes. Finally the crowd was waiting for the first award to be presented.
THE BEST POP VIDEO went to One Direction who also took home three other moon men–the most of the night, even though Justin Beiber was close behind. Centennial student ViLynda Gordan agreed and thought Bieber shouldn’t win. P!nk’s “Blow Me One Last Kiss” performance was amazing as always. The title of the song made me wonder this would be her last album. The heart stopping, confident performance by Frank Ocean was an emotional rollercoaster and can be summed up in one word: phenomenal. Centennial senior Derrion Herman also enjoyed Frank Ocean and was excited that Childish Gambino was nominated.
The standouts of the night were One Direction performing “What Makes You Beautiful”, turning the heads of girls to the five members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson. 2 Chainz and Lil’ Wayne hyped up the crowd with their performance. Green Day went insane when they hit they hit the stage with “Let Yourself Go” and actually letting everyone in the crowd go! Closing what is now known as the best award show this year, Alicia Keys performed “Girl On Fire” with a special appearance by Olympian Gabby Douglass.
