Illinois Men’s Basketball Team Wins Maui Invite

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini men’s basketball team are the 2012 Maui Invitational champions. The Maui Invite is a short, three day tournament of the early college basketball season. The schools that participated in this year’s tournament were the #9 North Carolina Tar Heels, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, Marquette Golden Eagles, Butler Bulldogs, Southern California Trojans, Illinois Fighting Illini and the host school, Chaminade Silver Swords, who is a Division II school. The first game for the Illini was against the Trojans where they beat them 94-64. The second game was against the Silver Swords where they won again 84-61. In the finals, they faced Butler winning 78-61 to win their first ever Maui Invite. Point guard, Brandon Paul, was MVP of the tournament.
