Centennial’s Creative Writing Club is having a winter writing contest. In your submission, you have to include one or more of the following phrases: “Now is the winter of our discontent”, “Winter dawn is the color of metal”, “From caves of ice and fields of snow the breath of night like death did flow”, and “In winter, fire is beautiful”. Three prizes will be awarded with the first place winner receiving ten dollars. They will be giving prizes for best poem, best short story or novel excerpt, and best use of all four phrases. The twelfth week of the NFL season started on Thursday, November 22nd, which was also Thanksgiving. Since 1933, it has been a tradition for NFL football to be played on Thanksgiving, which was started by the Detroit Lions (formerly the Portsmouth Spartans). Every year the Lions and the Dallas Cowboys play on Thanksgiving, although they do not play against each other. There is also one other game played, but this varies by year. During November, a couple of student athletes were selected to talk to elementary students about bullying. Many of the student athletes discussed their experiences with it and how they coped with it, when they were younger. Tryouts will be held December 12th in the IMC. The theme is Hollywood, so come dressed to impress! Centennial’s National Honor Society is collecting new toys from Centennial students for children for the holidays. Toys are being collected in the main lobby both before and after school. Toys are being collected until December 7th. If you are interested in bringing in toys, please make sure they are new. It is a great cause, and you can help bring a smile to a child’s face over the holidays!
