Compelling from beginning to end, The Artist is a classy silent movie that takes place in the late 20’s and early 30’s. It rightfully won five Academy Awards for being such a lovely and creative film. It follows the life of George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) who was a really famous silent movie actor in the 20’s. He meets a girl named Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo) in one of his movie premiers, and she soon starts her career as an actress. Things start shifting in a negative direction for him when talkies become more in demand than silent movies. No one wants to see George in a movie because he’s not a talking actor. Meanwhile, Peppy’s popularity continues to grow as she becomes a famous talking actress. This is the story of two actors and their different adaptations to the new style of cinema.
