Fighting Illini Mens Basketball a Perfect 10

by Leon Phanrana

The ranked 13th Illinois Fighting Illini mens basketball traveled to Spokane, Washington on Saturday to face the 10th ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs. The Illini being a early surprise team looked to upset the Zags on their home court to improve to 10-0.  The Illini beat the Zags with a final score of 85-74 in their own court. Early on in the first half the Zags used their size advantage to go up 12-3, but once head coach John Groce was able to talk to his team during a time out the Illini started to take over. Illini point guard Brandon Paul dominated the game scoring 35 points. In front of 6,000 rowdy Gonzaga fans the Illini kept their composure and did not let the crowd affect them to grab the win. Illini improved to 10-0 while the Zags dropped to 9-1. When the new AP poll came out on Monday the Illini moved up to the 10th spot while Gonzaga dropped to 14th.
