MVP for December: Dedric Byrd

Dedric “Pookie” Byrd plays for Centennial High School’s basketball team.  He’s currently a junior that has all the newspapers raving. He’s one of the young threats on the team that helps out the elite seniors from time to time. Dedric also could be considered to be one of the top Point Guards in the state.

The Centinal: Everyone wants to know where the nickname “Pookie” originates from.

Byrd: My mother.

The Centinal: Who started you off playing basketball?

Byrd: My dad actually started me off playing Basketball.

The Centinal: What made you want to play at Centennial?

Byrd: Well, my family moved from Chicago, and we decided to come here.

The Centinal: Is the style of basketball here different from where you recently played?

Byrd: Yes, it’s actually more slowly paced.

The Centinal: What’s your favorite part about playing basketball?

Byrd: “course Defense, it wins games.

The Centinal: Do you have any pre-game rituals?

Byrd: Not really.

The Centinal: Who makes you laugh the most on the team?

Byrd: Phillip Wright

The Centinal: If you could be any celebrity who would it be?

Byrd: I would most definitely be Derrick Rose.

The Centinal: What game are you looking forward to?

Byrd: The Central game again!

The Centinal: Who’s your favorite artist?

Byrd: Meek Mill
