Student of the Week: Katelynn Martinez

Katelynn Martinez is a senior who is an outstanding player on the court and a great student in the classroom as well. She’s a multisport athlete where she contributes to the golf team, girl’s basketball team, and the girl’s soccer team. Aside from sports she spends lots of time with family and working hard to keep her grades up. She actively stays  involved in National Honors Society and Interact. Her many involvments throughout Centennial High School are why she was chosen as this week’s student of the week.

The Centinal: What are your plans after high school?

Katelynn: I’m going to be attending Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville (SIUE) to play basketball.

The Centinal: What are your favorite hobbies?

Katelynn: I enjoy exercising like running, spending time with my family, and shopping.

The Centinal: What made you decide to attend SIUE?

Katelynn: It’s a good distance away from home, the campus is pretty, and the coaches and players were nice when I went on my visit.

The Centinal: Which do you like better; basketball or soccer?

Katelynn: I like basketball better, because of the fast tempo of the game and the competitiveness.

The Centinal: What was your most memorable game?

Katelynn: Last year during the socder Sectional Semi-final game against Mahomet, I scored the two goals late in the second half which advanced us to the Sectional Championship.

The Centinal: What has been your most memorable moment throughout your whole high school carreer?

Katelynn: Junior year at the homecoming powder puff football game when the Juniors beat the Seniors, because that never happens.

List of awards Katelynn has recieved: Soccer- Big 12 All Conference 1st Team 2012, All Sectional Honorable Mention 2012, News-Gazette All Area 1st Team 2011 and 2012, News-Gazette Player of the Year 2012. Basketball- Big 12 All Conference 1st Team, 2011 Big 12 Player of the Year, All- Tourney honors four years in a row at Blue Star, All-Tourney honors twice at State Farm Tournament, Scored 1000 points.
