The FTA Looks Toward the Future

by Lexi Hall

The FTA is a club at Centennial High School. Also known as the Future Teachers of America, the club is run by Mr. Garcia and students interested in teaching in the future. They have only had two meetings so far, so it’s not too late to join. Everyone is welcome; the only requirement is monthly tutoring hours. At the last meeting, nominations were made for the executive board; positions include president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.

Looking forward in the year, this January, members will be shadowing students from the University of Illinois who are majoring in certain fields of education. After that, sometime in the Spring, they will shadow actual teachers for a day.

Senior Ben Rogers has always wanted to be a teacher, “I’ve always loved History, and I want to teach people to love it like I do.”

When asked how he feels about the shadowing process, Rogers responded, “I think it will be a great experience to spend the day with someone who has the same job I want. And even though it’s only one day, it will give me a good impression of being a teacher.”
