Centennial Expressions to Perform with Kenny Rogers

by Faith Middleton

Centennial Expressions performs regularly around the community at events such as Illini Friday and recently alongside Centennial Orchestra at the Orchestra’s winter concert. These performances are normal occurrences that the choir students are used to, but Expressions has been given the opportunity to perform for an audience much larger than usual.

Centennial Choral Department Head Marian Wyatt received the opportunity for her Expressions Choir to perform in the Kenny Rogers Christmas Show in Champaign. The show is the last stop in a long tour for Kenny Rogers and his band, including country singer Linda Davis. Kenny Rogers is a seasoned music professional who has been in the business since the 1950s. He has reached commercial success over the course of his career and has worked alongside Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Willie Nelson and others. He has spawned hits such as “The Gambler” and “Islands in the Stream.”

Not only is Expressions the guest choir for the Champaign show, but Expressions’ members’ younger siblings are being included in the show as children singers. The Kenny Rogers Christmas show is at the State Farm Center on Sunday, December 22nd.
