It is now December which means the holiday season is in full swing! Many people may not know what to do during winter break, but there are many seasonal things going on in Champaign-Urbana that anyone can take advantage of. Below are just some of the many ideas that you could be apart of.
“Season of Light” at the Planetarium at Parkland is a light show surrounding the traditions of the holiday times and history of our holiday customs. This show will run until December 20th and it is on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. It costs just $4 for students and the Planetarium always puts on a good show.
Illinois Fighting Illini men’s basketball plays Kennesaw State on December 27th at the State Farm Center. The time of the game has yet to be announced, but this is the perfect opportunity to go with your family that isn’t usually in town!
Candlestick Lane in Urbana is a neighborhood filled with festive houses lit up for the holiday season. Take your friends and family and drive through this area at night to see all of the bright lights!
Virginia Theater will be hosting the “Best Christmas Movies Ever” series on the 16th through the 20th. On the 16th they will be playing Holiday Inn, on the 17th and 18th will be Miracle on 34th Street, and on the 19th and 20th will be It’s A Wonderful Life. All shows are at 7 p.m. and cost $4.00.
There will be free trolley rides on December 6th, 13th, and 20th from 3-5. These rides will go through downtown, midtown, and campustown. They will provide free hot chocolate in cookies as well as local performers entertaining throughout the ride. This is a good way to explore the areas of Champaign that you might not have seen all of before in a fun way!
