Illinois Basketball: Winter Chills

The Illinois Fighting Illini fell to Oregon Saturday in Chicago, tallying their third loss in three weeks.

Former Centennial student, and current Illini starter Rayvonte Rice, led the Illini with 29 points. Rice’s hero-ball wasn’t enough as Illinois blew a 13 point lead to fall by seven to the Ducks.

A hot topic among Illini fans has been the shooting of transfer guards Ahmad Starks and Aaron Cosby. The dynamic duo has struggled mightily against stronger competition. Both arrived at Illinois known for their three-point shooting, however they’ve┬ánot made shots when it counts. Will the shooting woes continue for the impact transfer guards?

A positive for the Illini has been the outburst from sophomore forward Malcolm Hill. Hill scored a career high 20 points against the seventh-ranked Villanova Wildcats. Hill is averaging 13.7 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game.

The Illini are in action again on Wednesday against Hampton. Can the Illini make the three? Hampton should not be able to keep up with the Illini’s speed in transition, potentially leading to easy points around the rim. Many questions are still left to be answered by this Illini squad. Tune in on Wednesday at 6:00 pm to see the Illini in action live on ESPNU.
