Although Centennial has many athletes, not many can say that they will be able to play at the next level, and for five boys, this dream became a reality when they signed to play in college on Wednesday, February 4th, National Signing Day.
Kylan Dubose , Dave Bramlett, Steven Lee, Austin Maltbia, and Jeremiah Peoples who signed to Mckendree University, Northern Illinois University, University of Chicago, and Drake, respectively, have been playing football since they were kids. Many of them playing together on the same teams, and going to school together, Although they always knew they wanted to play in high school, they didn’t think that they would be able to continue playing in college.
Dave Bramlett, who has been playing football since he was 12, says, “I feel great, and hope to keep learning and building my skills.” For these boys, the opportunity to play in college not only means being able to make connections, it also means being able to continue to grow and develop skills that they have been working on for years.
Families and coaches were extremely proud when they came out to watch the boys sign their contracts on Wednesday. “These boys are blessed to be able to play their favorite sport at a higher level.” said a very happy, and proud, Mrs. Maltbia as she watched Austin commit to play at University of Chicago. Their hard work has shown on and off the field, many of them are not only star athletes, but honor roll students whose focus in the classroom has helped them to come this far. Jeremiah is incredibly happy to be continuing on to play at Drake University, “playing division one football has always been something I aspired to, and to be able to do so is not only a blessing, but a dream come true.”
