Charger of the Week: Sonny Walker

by Leland Jackson

Sonny Walker is the Boys Junior Varsity Basketball head coach, as well the Varsity Boys Assistant Coach. He also teaches Physical Education here at Centennial. Coach Walker has a very deep and rich reputation throughout the halls of Centennial and the streets of Champaign-Urbana. From his dominant performance on the court during his high school years here as well, to his comedic and laid back persona, the students and staff have learned to love him.

What do you enjoy most about Centennial?

I like the students and the staff members. I grew up around here and went to school here; I bleed blue.

What are your favorite hobbies?

Basketball of course, with me playing basketball and coaching. I like to spend time with my daughters and sons. I enjoy video games and watching any type of sports. I try to stay relaxed and stress free.

What is your favorite food?

My favorite food is fried chicken.

What is your favorite brand?

My favorite brand is Jordan.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Right now, probably Florida, because of the warmth. I don’t like cold weather.

If you were given a million dollars for the day, what would you do with it?

Save it! At least I’d try. I would pay off all my bills, buy my parents something nice, put some money aside for my kids, and whatever money I’d have left I’d either have a big party or give all my brothers and sisters some money.
