With the start of another high school football season everyone is wondering how well The Chargers will do. Centennial went 5-5 in its 2015 season with a 6a playoff appearance and its second straight playoff appearance. The Chargers have many returning starters and high expectations from second year head coach Lakevie Johnson. We sat down with Coach Johnson to talk about the 2016 season.
Why did you decide to start coaching?
“I decided to start coaching because of my love for the game of football and I really enjoy the mentorship aspect of being a coach. It also gave me the opportunity to impact the lives of great young men.”
How does being a former coach help coaching?
“You are able to understand the game and know the mistakes that you made as a player and make sure your players don’t make the same ones.”
What are your expectations for this season and the seasons to come?
“For our guys and teams to get better and build a successful program. I have very high expectations for this class of football players and think we can be Big 12 Champs and make a playoff run.”
How do you think the team will respond to a big win last week?
“Hopefully give us momentum going into the rest of the season and go on a win streak. Also get the bitter taste out of our mouth from an upsetting week 1 lose.”
What do you think the key to having a successful season this year will be?
“To eliminate mistakes and maintain focus throughout the whole year. Dealing with adversity and staying together as a team will be important this year.”
