The Charger Girls Tennis team won against Normal West on Thursday, August 24th, with a close 5-4 score, the deciding match coming down to a third set tiebreak on the #2 doubles court. With only thirteen girls on the team this year, they’re already off to a great start.
On Saturday, August 19th, the team had hosted the Charger Invite at Atkins. 16 teams had come to compete. The girls had been given merely seven days of practice to get prepared for their first tournament, but it ended up going well.
“The Centennial Invite was a success,” Teri Scaggs, coach of the team, said. “The weather was good, and we were able to have the entire tournament at one site which is a big plus for coaches and players.”
Usually, the girls sell coupon booklets to fundraise for the season. When asked if this was still going to be the plan, Coach Scaggs said, “Yes, I think selling the coupon booklets again this year will be nice. It’s a win-win for the team and the person buying the booklet/supporting our team.”
There are over $2,000 worth of savings in the booklet, and they’re sold for merely $20 a piece. You’re welcome to buy one from any player on the team!
The girls’ season is as full as it can be, with their next game being on Saturday the 26th for a Quad Meet at Olivet Nazarene at 9am, meaning an early 7:15am bus departure. They have two back-to-back games on the 30th, at their home courts, Lindsay, vs Gibson City, and the 31st, at Urbana.
